Chaos fic: The Play's The Thing, Prologue

February 2nd, 2012 (07:47 am)

feeling: anxious

Title: The Play’s the Thing

Disclaimer: Not mine.

Total Word Count: 16,000

Rating: PG-13

A/N: I wrote this at the prompting of sophie_deangirl, who suggested Billy undercover as an actor. Her prompt was light but my mind came up with angst! And romance! And tragedy! And so I wrote this, with thanks to sophie for the read through and apologies to Shakespeare. Remaining mistakes/typos/randomness are my own doing.

Warning: Billy/OFC and pre-series speculation. Also, heavy and extended references to Romeo and Juliet. Some basic familiarity is probably ideal for context.

Summary: He was no longer Billy Collins, born and bruised in North Edinburgh, he was Romeo, a Montague of Verona, and that was all that mattered.

Prologue – Many Years Ago

Billy couldn’t help himself. Olivia was on the bed, sprawled on her stomach, face propped up on her hand as she looked at the manuscript in front of her.

With a very serious face, he sidled up next to her on the bed. “Oh, what I wouldn’t give to be a glove upon that hand.”

She swatted him, trying to look annoyed but her eyes gave her away. “I’m trying to study.”

Billy kept his earnest look tonight. “Oh, wilt thou leave me so unsatisfied?”

Sighing, she rolled her eyes, looking at him with as much exasperation as she could muster. “And what satisfaction canst thou have tonight?”

He launched himself at her, wrapping his arms around her and rolling her playfully to her back. “The exchange of thy love’s faithful vow for mine.”

Olivia erupted in giggles, trying to squirm away. “Billy, I’m serious!”

He shook his head, grinning as he looked down at her. “That’s not the right line.”

“That’s because you won’t let me study,” she said emphatically. “I want to get this part.”

He groaned, flopping off her and scooping up the pages. He flipped through it, sighing. “This one is overrated anyhow.”

Olivia squawked, snatching it back. “Not hardly,” she said. “It’s a classic.”

“Romeo is a love-struck fool and Juliet is the first girl silly enough to say yes to him,” he said.

“Oh, Billy, that’s too cynical for you,” she said.

“I love a good romance,” he said, head inclined. “But they went about it all wrong.”

“Fate was against them,” she said, a mite defensive.

“Fate is overrated,” he replied flatly.

“What? So you don’t believe in star-crossed lovers?” she asked, a little coy now.

His lips turned up again, salaciously this time. “I believe in lovers, plain and simple.”

Olivia giggled again.

He nipped at her, pressing his lips to hers. This time she let him, and they sank back toward the pillows, enveloped in each other’s arms.

When they pulled apart, he was flushed, heart pounding, eyes fixed. “Anyway, I can’t stand the way it starts,” he said, voice low and gaze intent.

She blinked at him, still grinning and breathless. “And pray tell, why is that?”

“The bloody prologue tells the whole story,” he said.

When she laughed, he kissed her deeply and when the script fell on the floor, neither of them paid it any heed.

////“Fate was against them,” she said, a mite defensive.////

Eeek! I love their playfulness (and who could resist Billy when he quotes like that?).

I'm glad you've started the fic off with the mysterious Olivia, whom I've been intrigued about since she was first mentioned on the show *G*

billy content

One of the hardest parts about a prematurely canceled show is that it never gets to show you all the juicy stuff that is hinted at. Not knowing Billy's backstory will always bother me greatly. No matter how many times I try to write it myself, I want to know what was actually intended!

Argh! I'm going to resent CBS for quite some time over this!

But yeah. Anyway.

Thanks :)

Billy and Shakespeare - The perfect love affair!

This was just lovely fluffy fun! I am a Shakespeare-ophile as you know and would have LOVED to have seen Billy perform Shakespeare since the tease on Mincemeat where he recognizes a Shakespeare quote without a moment's hesitation. Then later, his historical knowledge about Churchill, Kennedy and Lincoln. I LOVE a man with a brain. HAHAHA! This fulfills such a happy longing!!!

I'm not even jealous over his romance with Olivia! HAHAHA!

A man with a brain is quite lovely -- especially when he looks like JM!

And the image of Billy doing Shakespeare is one I will pine for now. It's quite something that you weren't jealous of Olivia!

Thanks :)
