Fandom To Do List 2012

January 2nd, 2012 (09:59 am)
Tags: ,

My goal in 2012 is three fold. First, I want to post all the fics I have finished on my computer. Some are still pretty old; some I don’t even like. But I want to get them all up because they’re not doing any good just sitting on my hard drive.

Second, I want to finish my WIPs. Some have quite a bit finished and I want to buckle down and see them through.

Third, I want to tackle a few longstanding plot bunnies that have tickled the back of my mind.

In order to help accomplish these goals, I needed to get organized. Hence, this post. Also, I figure by posting it to my journal, I can help keep myself accountable a bit. To that end, if anyone sees a fic idea that they really want to see (or would even be willing to help beta), please comment. I’m easily talked into things and if there’s interest in something, I’m more likely to pursue it.

To Post/Edit

Untitled Chuck Fic – a one-shot, set in S4, in which Chuck is shot and grapples with his current life situation. Includes Chuck/Sarah tones and some grumpy Casey for good measure.

Untitled Chaos fic – This one involves Billy falling suddenly ill and the team trying to figure out what’s wrong with him before it’s too late.

Untitled Supernatural – one shot, S5 AU, character death

Untitled Harry Potter – one shot, missing scene GOF. Madame Pomfrey POV after the tourna-ment.

Untitled Harry Potter – one shot, Harry character study post GOF.

Untitled Supernatural – one shot, crack-ish. Early series – the boys get some help from yaks. I wrote this way back during the yak jokes that went on in early SPN fandom but was too shy to post.

Lost and Found – A multi-part Chaos fic that involves Rick and Billy being tortured and some serious soul searching for Rick.

Objects in Motion – Primeval oneshot. Basically a Stephen character study with preseries speculation and the events of S1 and S2.

In Time I’ll Be Who You’re Thinking Of – Chaos/Primeval crossover in which Stephen is brought back but the aftermath is complicated. Set in S4, which is problematic since I’ve never seen S4. This in particular needs a helping hand from someone with knowledge of S4 and British English.

Untitled Primeval – Multi-part, set in S2. Involves a non-sci fi context in which the team has to come to terms with what has changed.

Beyond a Green and Yellow Basket – Redemptive!Dean verse, set after Sometimes You Do. Jess comes back to town and Rory must confront some old feelings with new revelations.

A Wake Up Call – Multi-part, Twilight, set post-BD. The wolf pack deals with life in a time of peace.

Like the Rising Sun – Multi-part, Twilight, post-BD. A new threat comes to Forks with the wolves at the epicenter.

Five Times Seth Phased – Twilight one-shot. Glimpses of Seth’s life, pre- and post series.

The Critical Key – Suits fic. Mike is hurt and Harvey learns a few lessons.

Untitled Social Network – Really short, years later, Mark has some unexpected news that makes him reflect and regret.

Untitled Firefly – multi-part, set between the series and the movie. Mal and Simon get stranded together.

Untitled North Square – one shot, character exploration of Johnny Boy. Unrequited Morag/Johnny Boy

Untitled North Square – one shot, set post series. Morag learns to see all sides of an issue. Morag/Johnny Boy.

The Right Foot -- A&E, one shot. AU for 4.01. Anyone who has seen it can probably guess how.

Untitled Chaos – ficlet, character study. Each team member speculates on their end.

Untitled Psych – one shot, post S4, Shawn character study. Shawn reflects after the events with Yin.

Untitled Merlin – tag to Dragonlord.

Untitled Chaos – preseries. The team recovers after losing Simms.

H50/Chaos – Multi-part, set S1 H50. The Chaos guys end up on an unofficial case in Hawaii that crosses paths with 5-0. The rest is controlled chaos from there.

Untitled Primeval – One shot, AU. I saw a prompt that had Stephen being aware of Leek’s plans and betraying Cutter in order to protect him. So I wrote it. And now I need to revise it and post.

The Dice Were Loaded From the Start -- One-shot, Chaos. sophie_deangirl keeps writing unrequited Adele/Billy, so my mind came up with a way to actually get them together (without betraying Rick).

To Finish

Untitled Psych – Multi-part, mid-S4 (pre Shawn/Jules hookup). Basically it involves Shawn and an out of body experience. I have a lot of this one done – over 50k, I think.

Kidnapped Sam – Multi-part SPN, S1. This is probably the oldest WIP I have. I started it after the Benders, although the only common theme is Sam being captured by country bumpkins. I have 2/3 of the fic written.

H50/Oceans – multi-part, co-written with moogsthewriter. This continues the verse in which Danny is Turk Malloy from Oceans 11. In this, the Ocean’s gang meets up with 5-0 when Danny/Turk goes missing.

Scars – multi-part, also co-written with moogsthewriter. Basically this is a long case fic which explores Danny’s troubled past taking down a mob boss.

Blind!Danny – a ficlet series. I took a fic table and started this series to finish it. The ficlets are all connected, following the story of a bust that ends up with Danny being temporarily blinded. I have nearly 15 of the ficlets written and up to 25 plotted, which is about half the table. I’m not sure if the other half would be in the same verse or not.

Chuck in a vault – multi-part, set S4. I don’t have as much of this one written but basically my entire purpose in starting it was to put Chuck in a situation where he had to treat his own injury. In other words, he’s going to die unless he flashes on a medical procedure that he has to do to save his own life.

North Square – multi-part, post series. I know very few people have seen this series but I got this notion in my head for this fic and really do want to finish it. Basically it deals with evolving fallout from Peter’s alliance with a crime family and how that impacts the entire North Square family.

Cutting It – multi-part, post series. This is basically a continuation of where the show left us, focusing mostly on Liam trying to find continued acceptance from the Henshalls as well as Melissa.

Rick’s mom redux – probably a shorter one, just bringing Rick’s mom back into contact with the Chaos boys. I told altpointofview I’d try to write her a sequel to this, and I have it plotted but never made it more than a few scenes in.

Primeval fix – multi-part, set in S4. I like my notion for this – basically, Connor starts thinking a lot about Helen’s research/devices and decides to find a way to continue her work to fix things for the better. So he becomes obsessed with bringing back Cutter, Stephen, and Claudia at the cost of his present life. In my mind, I have it plotted to continue over several fics, with incurring fallout from Connor’s actions. My biggest problem is that I haven’t seen S3 or S4, which makes it hard to write characters from those seasons.

To Write

Primeval – Cloned!Stephen. Technically, I blame James Murray for mentioning in his LJ interview that he always played Stephen as a clone. My idea basically involves Stephen in the future sending a clone of himself back at the start of the second season to change things for the better. It’s all plotty and timey from there.

Gilmore Girls – I’m well overdue to write the next part of my redemptive!Dean verse. Most likely a piece in which cute!Dean earns the respect of Rory’s grandparents.

Chaos AU 1 – I have a notion for a five times fic involving AUs for the guys. I believe some of the ideas were old west, space, vampire hunters, and a few more I’m blanking on at the moment.

Chaos AU 2 – This is sort of related to the last but basically is just a longer single universe AU in which the guys aren’t CIA agents but still come together to generally save the day out of coincidence.

Under the Greenwood Tree – My idea stems from the book version in which there was doubt placed on Fancy’s dedication to the relationship. Basically, after they get married, Fancy has her doubts and says some things she shouldn’t. Dick tries to prove himself to her.

Keen Eddie – This is still James Murray’s fault. Basically it’s an extension of the ep “Eddie Loves Baseball” in which they realize that the two blokes holding Colin’s daughter were just the low level lackeys and the bigger fish come after Colin and Eddie gets caught up in the mess to survive.

Supernatural – I’ve long contemplated a sequel/parallel fic to When It Was Over. To start, I’d like to write Dean’s POV on the events and how his story unfolds in Peace.

Supernatural – Preseries fic involving Sam getting heat stroke after being in a locked car.

Supernatural – Preseries fic involving Sam at college getting meningitis. Involves Dean and John coming and meeting Jess, but leaving before Sam wakes up.

Supernatural – A plotty case fic in which Sam and Dean have to venture into a remote wooded area in the winter to save people from disturbing a spirit. The plot is more complicated than that and it involves Sam and Dean struggling to survive on the trek back.

Supernatural – Preseries fic, probably a one-shot, surrounding the Nair incident.

Supernatural – Preseries, basically explores Sam’s birth. Mary goes into labor almost two months early and she knows it’s because of the deal.

Chaos AU 3 – An alternate version of Proof of Life in which Billy was the one who disappeared and Carson is still on the ODS.

Chaos – I still have a desire to write another version of Billy’s backstory.

Once Upon a Time – I’m not sure what I want to write but I have the nagging sense that I’d like to write something with these characters, probably centric on Snow and Charming.

Primeval -- I have had a Cutter/Allison fic in mind in which Cutter tells Allison about Stephen's death and learns more about Stephen's mindset and why he never admitted the affair.

LOL, I really need to rewatch that show in order to get back into the mindset. Finding time for such things is easier said than done, but I'll see what I can do :)

hee, well, I'm of the firm belief that rewatching Keen Eddie is always a good thing.

Plus your whole list here has reminded me that I need to rewatch Primeval and Chaos...

so lots of good comes from this post. clearly.

In Time I’ll Be Who You’re Thinking Of

The Critical Key

Untitled Psych – Multi-part, mid-S4 (pre Shawn/Jules hookup). Basically it involves Shawn and an out of body experience. I have a lot of this one done – over 50k, I think.

Though I will happily read whatever you write:-)

When it comes to the Primeval and the Suits fic, my biggest concern is my characters being off. With Primeval, it's hard to write S4 characters without having seen S4. In Suits, I wrote the fic having only seen two episodes, which limits my grasp a bit. However, I'm hoping to coerce a friend into helping me brush these two up a bit to make them presentable.

The Psych fic is really high on my to do list because I wrote far too much to abandon it.

Mostly, I just need a lot of time. My kids don't seem intent on always cooperating, though :)

Stephen Anomaly

I'm basically squeeing over all the Chaos fic in there, but I'm really anxious to read the H50/Chaos crossover.
And I'm also looking forward to the Ocean's11/H50 crossover. I loved the first installment and can't wait to read more.

My mind is still really stuck on Chaos. I just fell so hard for that show that I'm not sure when I'll be over it.

The H50/Chaos crossover is interesting. I wrote it on a prompt from a friend and I don't think it's my best fic, but it turned out to be quite the undertaking so once I manage to get it beta'ed, I'll definitely post it.

And the Ocean/H50 crossover will happen. We got a good start on it but life just happened. moogsthewriter and I just need to buckle down and focus to get back on track with it.

I need to work on a beta for you this week but I'm hopeful that 2012 will yield more fics from you, too!!

Your mind being stuck on Chaos is a good thing :) Especially since mine is too.
I'm already working on another fic, but I'll be starting a new, major project at work next week (and I'm already totally nervous about it, since it'll a main topic of my dissertation) so that'll take over my mind (stomach too) pretty soon.
But I'm looking forward to getting your beta back :)

My jaw is still on the floor in awe after reading through this list - where on earth do you find the time to get all this writing DONE?? *G*

That's great that you've got so much fic to post. I love the sound of the Chaos and Primeval fics.

////In Time I’ll Be Who You’re Thinking Of – Chaos/Primeval crossover in which Stephen is brought back but the aftermath is complicated. Set in S4, which is problematic since I’ve never seen S4. This in particular needs a helping hand from someone with knowledge of S4 and British English.////

I've only watched bits and pieces of Primeval after S2, but I've found the Primeval Wiki, WikiQuotes and friends on Primeval Denial very helpful when I end up writing characters from the other seasons.

I've also got a Chaos/Primeval crossover in the works - I got a bunny for Billy actually being post S2 Stephen, and I was going to suggest it to you to write (and you're still welcome to, I'd love to see your take on it) as I was stuck on the logistics of how to do it, but then I worked out a plot so I'm determined to have it written by mid-Feb for smokeygirl19's birthday *G*

////Untitled Primeval – One shot, AU. I saw a prompt that had Stephen being aware of Leek’s plans and betraying Cutter in order to protect him. So I wrote it. And now I need to revise it and post.////

Sounds good - I hope it has a happy ending for Nick and Stephen ;) And yay for you planning to do the Clone Stephen too.

And yes to Cutting It fic that continues the show!

Looking forward to it all - good luck and happy writing

LOL. Honestly, I'm not sure when I have the time either. I'm a stay at home mom and writing has become my only creative outlet, so I invest almost all my free time into it as a way of combating the insanity of raising two young children. Needless to say, I don't get out much.

Your Chaos/Primeval crossover actually sounds a lot like mine. Essentially, mine has Stephen showing up out of an anomaly in the S4 time range. It's determined that he can't feasibly stay in the UK due to secrecy concerns (dead people can't just come to life) so he's given a new identity and shipped off to America as Billy Collins. I really like the concept but I'm just wary of my interpretation of characters like Becker and Matt, who I only know from a few brief youtube clips. One of my betas just watched part of S4, so I'm hoping she can help me with those elements of the story and give me the confidence to post.

But I've always been gun-shy in Primeval because I'm such an American in my writing :)

I hope you do get your fic done -- I'll be anxious to read it :) I've actually spent a good deal of time reading some of your older stuff. I'm not much of a slasher but I have found your interpretation of Stephen/Nick somewhat comforting. And I have to admit, my favorite one is your threesome with Nick/Stephen/Jenny because there's something so wonderfully happy about it that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside :)

My one-shot Primeval AU actually does have a happy ending :) I'll probably get that one up sooner than later. And I'm glad there'd be at least one other person to read a Cutting It fic! I have a good start on that one but just need to get my mind to focus on it.

Anyway, thanks! And good luck and happy writing to you, too!

Old Fashioned Stephen

////I'm a stay at home mom and writing has become my only creative outlet////

Congratulations at producing so much fic under such circumstances! I’m a slow writer, which frustrates me as I have so many ideas I want to do.

You and smokeygirl19 are keeping Chaos fic alive between the two of you. And we are grateful!

Chaos/Primeval crossover
////Essentially, mine has Stephen showing up out of an anomaly in the S4 time range. It's determined that he can't feasibly stay in the UK due to secrecy concerns////

That sounds very intriguing (though poor Stephen when he finds out that Nick is dead… Does he do the Scottish accent in his honour?). I love that we’re both tackling Stephen = Billy.

Regarding writing the S4 characters, put a post on Primeval Denial asking for a UK beta/character advisor, or put a request in that community’s Sunday Chat or Denial Daily posts. You’ll be swamped with willing helpers *G*.

////But I've always been gun-shy in Primeval because I'm such an American in my writing :)////

LOL. I’m an Australian, and while we still share a lot of the same spelling, there are a lot of differences too, so I’m glad that I have UK betas.

////I hope you do get your fic done -- I'll be anxious to read it :)////

Thank you – wanting to have it ready for my friend’s birthday should give me the necessary drive and deadline. And I’ve been watching Chaos back and making heaps of notes. (Such a chore!)

I think there must be some sort of medal for going through my back catalogue… That’s lovely that you think that about my Nick/Stephen (as you can see, I have a compulsive need to fix things for them and it is fun to find different ways to do so), and I certainly enjoyed putting Jenny in there too ;) Thanks very much!

////My one-shot Primeval AU actually does have a happy ending :)////

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!! I was so upset with what the show did to Nick and Stephen that I find it hard to read fics where things don’t work out for them.

And that would be perfect to post on Denial for this month’s teamfest.

Love that there’s a Keen Eddie fic in your repertoire too! Oh, and the Greenwood Tree one. And and and! Hee.

////And good luck and happy writing to you, too!////

Thanks! Looking forward to seeing these fics of yours.

Congratulations at producing so much fic under such circumstances! I’m a slow writer, which frustrates me as I have so many ideas I want to do.

I also write some freelance online, which has helped me dramatically increase the number of words I produce. Mostly, I have learned to let go of caring about whether or not it is good, LOL. I don't know if I recommend that to others, but it certainly does help me write a lot faster.

You and smokeygirl19 are keeping Chaos fic alive between the two of you. And we are grateful!

I'm so glad there are still readers for it. Because I'm still quite smitten with that show and probably will be for quite some time. Or, LOL, until I find something new with James to watch.

That sounds very intriguing (though poor Stephen when he finds out that Nick is dead… Does he do the Scottish accent in his honour?). I love that we’re both tackling Stephen = Billy.

The Stephen = Billy actually seems like a fairly natural crossover to me. But I am very eager to see your take on it. (And the Scottish accent does have ties to Nick. And a large portion of the fic is Stephen dealing with the news of Nick's demise.)

Regarding writing the S4 characters, put a post on Primeval Denial asking for a UK beta/character advisor, or put a request in that community’s Sunday Chat or Denial Daily posts. You’ll be swamped with willing helpers *G*.

They do all seem very friendly. I'll have to work my courage up to it :) But I know I definitely need someone from the UK to read over my stuff. I had lukadreaming do one for me and she did a great job. I just worry about putting people out. Mostly, I over think :)

There are few characters I want to fix as much as I want to fix them. And I've just been so glad to find writers who focus on Stephen (and Nick) because that's really what I want to read when it comes to Primeval. So thank you for writing!

And that would be perfect to post on Denial for this month’s teamfest.

That's sort of my goal. LOL, of course, I'm always better at writing than I am revising and posting which is why I end up with a backlog of fic.

Love that there’s a Keen Eddie fic in your repertoire too! Oh, and the Greenwood Tree one. And and and! Hee.

Basically, I have the overwhelming desire to write fic for any character James Murray has played. It's a sign that I'm well and thoroughly obsessed. After your previous comment, I started working on my Cutting It fic again :)

Now if my children could just understand why I need to spend more time writing and less time mothering, I'd be all set :)

////Mostly, I have learned to let go of caring about whether or not it is good, LOL. I don't know if I recommend that to others, but it certainly does help me write a lot faster.////

I know what you mean – I like to produce a well-crafted fanfic story and put a lot of effort in, but I don’t have to go over and over each sentence and word choice with the same intensity that I’d use for a piece I’d submit to a magazine.

////I'm so glad there are still readers for it. Because I'm still quite smitten with that show and probably will be for quite some time. Or, LOL, until I find something new with James to watch.////

Hee – you and a few others are our only hope for new Chaos ‘episodes’! And you may get to have fun with ‘Beautiful People’ too.

////(And the Scottish accent does have ties to Nick. And a large portion of the fic is Stephen dealing with the news of Nick's demise.)////

I’m tearing up already!!

////I just worry about putting people out. Mostly, I over think :)////

LOL. You’ll get volunteers. Luka is great, she was one of my usual betas – I hope she comes back into fandom again.

////There are few characters I want to fix as much as I want to fix them. And I've just been so glad to find writers who focus on Stephen (and Nick) because that's really what I want to read when it comes to Primeval. So thank you for writing!////

Yes, it is a compulsion to fix Nick and Stephen, because so much went wrong that really shouldn’t have. Thanks very much for reading mine, and I look forward to your fix it soon!

I’m on another ‘fic that will not end’, though I hope that I’ve nearly finished writing it, as it has swallowed up so much time already and there are others I want to work on, including the Billy is Stephen one…

////LOL, of course, I'm always better at writing than I am revising and posting which is why I end up with a backlog of fic.////

Another thing we have in common… I do tend to drag my heels about editing my work. And I’ve got action figure photos to post too.

////After your previous comment, I started working on my Cutting It fic again :)

*sporfling and cheering* That’s the spirit! It is a noble quest indeed to write so much JM fic. (And considering his character couldn’t even survive in a comedy fantasy – Krod – there’s usually a lot to fix…)

////Now if my children could just understand why I need to spend more time writing and less time mothering, I'd be all set :)////

Good luck with that ;)

I know what you mean – I like to produce a well-crafted fanfic story and put a lot of effort in, but I don’t have to go over and over each sentence and word choice with the same intensity that I’d use for a piece I’d submit to a magazine.

Exactly. I'm probably even more laid back than you are mostly because fic is my hobby -- practically my only hobby anymore -- so I figure I shouldn't be letting it stress me out at all.

Hee – you and a few others are our only hope for new Chaos ‘episodes’! And you may get to have fun with ‘Beautiful People’ too.

I've been trying not to think too hard about "Beautiful People" for fear of getting my hopes up too much. But if it ever does come to be, I almost guarantee that I'll write fic :)

I’m on another ‘fic that will not end’, though I hope that I’ve nearly finished writing it, as it has swallowed up so much time already and there are others I want to work on, including the Billy is Stephen one…

Fic does tend to have a mind of its own. I keep telling myself that I shouldn't start fics that aren't on my to do list, but my muse other ideas....

*sporfling and cheering* That’s the spirit! It is a noble quest indeed to write so much JM fic. (And considering his character couldn’t even survive in a comedy fantasy – Krod – there’s usually a lot to fix…)

This is painfully true. If Chaos hadn't been canceled, I probably wouldn't feel the need to write so much other JM fic, but since it is, I'm doing what I can to keep my muse satisfied. Here's hoping that Beautiful People gets picked up and JM lasts more than 13 episodes!

Good luck with that ;)

Thanks :)

Today has gotten away on me and tomorrow I'll be out most of the day, but I'll reply to your reply in full tomorrow evening *G*

But I must say thank you for the lovely feedback and YES and YAY to the Primeval fic having a happy ending, and for you saying it will be posted soon!
